Vol. 276 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

29.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a public telephone kiosk at Clonmel Road, Mitchelstown, County Cork.

: The Clonmel Road area is served by a telephone kiosk in Lower Cork Street which is not used sufficiently to justify provision of an additional kiosk in the general area.

30.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the erection of a telephone kiosk at Barry's Cross, Toureenablaha, Brosna, County Kerry, as this is a very isolated area and is a long distance from a public telephone.

My Department are not at present providing kiosks in areas such as Barry's Cross where there is no post office.

31.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the fact that there is no public telephone kiosk between Bray and Kilmacanogue, County Wicklow, an area of high population, he will arrange for the erection of a kiosk in the Avondale Park/Killarney Park vicinity of Bray.

It is planned to provide a telephone kiosk in the area mentioned during 1975.

Will it be early 1975 or late 1975?

It should be relatively early 1975.

32.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephones will be provided for applicants in the Tallaght area, Dublin.

33.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephones will be provided for the applicants at Kilnamanagh Estate, Greenhills Road, Tallaght, Dublin.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephones will be provided for the applicants at Greenpark Estate, Walkinstown, Dublin.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 32, 33 and 34 together.

Terms for service have been quoted to some 600 of the 1,500 waiting applicants at Tallaght. Service will be provided for about 300 immediately after the new Tallaght exchange is opened in January. It was hoped that the exchange would be open by now but this has not unfortunately been practicable. The majority of the other waiting applicants, including those in the developed portions of Kilnamanagh and Greenpark Estates, will have attention within the following three months.

The balance will be cleared according as development in new housing estates in the area permits the laying of underground cabling.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the provision of a telephone kiosk at Greenpark Estate, Walkinstown, Dublin.

In my reply of 14th March last to a question by the Deputy I stated that a telephone kiosk was being provided to serve the combined areas of Limekiln Farm and Greenpark. This kiosk was brought into service on 1st July, 1974. Provision of a separate kiosk in Greenpark Estate would not be warranted.

36.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the provision of a telephone kiosk in Kilbarron village, Nenagh, County Tipperary.

My Department are not at present providing kiosks in areas such as Kilbarron where there is no post office.

37.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the provision of a telephone kiosk in Aglish village, Roscrea, County Tipperary.

Arrangements have already been made to provide a telephone kiosk at Aglish. Provided there is no delay in obtaining a suitable site, it is hoped to have the kiosk in service early in 1975.

38.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the erection of a public telephone kiosk in the village of Ballinagree, Macroom, County Cork.

As I indicated in reply to a similar question on 16th May, 1974, the use made of the call office telephone in the sub-post office at Ballinagree is not sufficient to warrant provision of a kiosk there at present.
