Vol. 276 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Development.

56.

asked the Minister for Health if he will now announce his decision on hospital development for the whole country outside Dublin.

As I have said in reply to a number of questions about individual hospitals, a Cabinet sub-committee is considering the proposals for hospital development which evolved from examination by the various health administrative bodies and announcements will be made as consideration is completed.

When is that likely to be?

As soon as the report is examined.

Have any of the reports been examined yet?

Indeed, yes.

How is it that decisions have not been made on them?

The whole lot must be taken together before a decision can be made with regard to any individual report.

A decision was made in relation to Dublin; it was announced a month, or more, ago.

The Deputy will appreciate that Dublin contains a very large population and one must start somewhere.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary telling us that the decision for the whole of Ireland will be announced at once or will decisions be given separately in relation to each region?

My belief is that the decision will be announced for the whole of the country.

When is that likely to be?

Keep asking.

Keep asking?

I do not want to be smart about this, but there was a sub-committee of the Cabinet inquiring into this.

Who were the members?

I cannot give the members because I have not got the names here before me.

A Deputy

It is a separate question.

That is a matter for the Chair.

Acting Chairman

I think the Deputy is widening the scope of the question. The Chair is calling Question No. 57.

I have been waiting to be called by the Chair for the last three or four minutes and the Chair would not even lift his head.

Acting Chairman

Deputy Molloy.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary give the date when this Cabinet sub-committee was established and the names of the members of it?

I have already answered with regard to the names and, with regard to the date, I have not got that information with me.

The Parliamentary Secretary has not answered, he said he did not know.

The Parliamentary Secretary said he did not know who was on the committee.

I have not got the names here.

God help him. Do they tell him anything? Of course the information is there on the file.
