Vol. 276 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Votes.

74.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of postal votes applied for and granted in respect of the local elections this year; and if he is satisfied that the same postal voting facilities should apply in future elections.

A total of 30,689 persons applied to vote by post at the local elections in June and postal votes were granted in the case of 27,340 applicants. The question of providing extended postal voting facilities at Dáil and presidential elections and referenda is being examined and I hope to introduce legislation in the matter shortly.
