Vol. 276 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Walkinstown (Dublin) School.

1.

asked the Minister for Education if his Department have any plans to provide a post-primary school to cater for the pupils attending St. Damien's boys' primary school, Beechfield, Walkinstown, Dublin, who are experiencing difficulty in obtaining places in schools in the area due to overcrowding.

It is intended that the extension to the vocational school, which is under construction at present and which will be completed during the coming year, will be sufficient to cater for the second-level needs in the area for some time. The question of reserving a site in the area for a possible future development is under consideration.

Do I take it this is the proposed extension to St. Paul's school?

Mr. R. Burke

The extension which I have described is one to the Greenhill's College in Walkinstown.

Is the Minister aware that there has been a request made to him, through his Department, to meet the parents' committee of this school? Is the Minister considering this possibility or could he say if he will meet those parents? Is the Minister aware that there is a request before him to meet these people in regard to St. Damien's school?

Mr. R. Burke

I will give that request consideration. It has been made to me by a number of Deputies and I shall deal with it as soon as possible.
