asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider introducing an escalator clause into the regulations for social welfare allowances so that compensatory increases in the value of the allowances paid may be made corresponding to rises in the cost-of-living index.

I would invite the Deputy's attention to the statement of policy in this regard contained in paragraph 119 of the recent White Paper entitled "A National Partnership".
