Vol. 276 No. 13

Vote 14: Secret Service.

I move:

That a sum not exceeding £14,000 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the period commencing on the 1st day of April, 1974, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1974, for Secret Service.

It seems to me that this represents a reduction on last year's figure. Is that because it is only for the nine-months' period as against the 12 months, or is there any intention of reducing the very small provision made under this subhead?

No. As the Deputy will appreciate, this figure is determined by what the Garda and the military authorities consider necessary. There is no Government decision to reduce money on this very vital item.

Vote put and agreed to.
