Vol. 276 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - County Limerick Telephone Service.

17.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the progress made to date with regard to the provision of automatic telephone service in (a) the Listowel/Abbeyfeale area and (b) the Newcastle West/Rathkeale area, County Limerick.

Progress on provision of automatic service in the Listowel, Abbeyfeale, Ballybunion, Tarbert, Foynes, Newcastle West and Rathkeale exchange areas is dependent upon the installation of trunk switching equipment at Listowel and Rathkeale where exchange buildings are required. Based on the latest forecasts by the Office of Public Works for completion of new buildings at Listowel and Rathkeale, it is expected that Listowel, Abbeyfeale and Ballybunion will be converted to automatic working in two to two-and-a-half years. Rathkeale, Newcastle West, Foynes and Tarbert are expected to take up to 12 months longer.
