asked the Taoiseach the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973 and (b) 1st January, 1975.

There were eight persons on the personal staff of the Taoiseach on the 1st January, 1973, and nine on the 1st January, 1975.

The staff of the Parliamentary Secretary's Office on both dates numbered three.

asked the Minister for Health the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973 and (b) 1st January, 1975.

(a) On 1st January, 1973, the number of personnel employed on the personal staff of my predecessor was eight. My predecessor had no Parliamentary Secretary. (b) On 1st January, 1975, eight officers were employed on my personal staff and six on the personal staff of my Parliamentary Secretary.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973 and (b) 1st January, 1975.

The numbers are: (a) 1st January, 1973—Minister: Nil—The personal staff of the Minister were employed in the Department of Labour and are included in the figures given by that Department. Parliamentary Secretary: 6. (b) 1st January, 1975—Minister: 9. Parliamentary Secretary: 9.

asked the Minister for Defence the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

Information in regard to the personal staff of my Parliamentary Secretary, who is also Parliamentary Secretary to the Taoiseach, is being supplied by the Taoiseach.

The number of personnel employed on the personal staff of the then Minister for Defence on 1st January, 1973, was six. The number employed on my personal staff on 1st January, 1975, was seven.

asked the Minister for the Public Service the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary, on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

(a) The Department of the Public Service was established on 1st November, 1973, by the Minister and Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 1973 (Appointed Day) Order, 1973. Accordingly the question of personal staff in the office of the Minister for the Public Service on 1st January, 1973, does not arise.

(b) The number of personnel jointly employed on my personal staff as Minister for the Public Service and Minister for Finance on 1st January, 1975, was 12.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

The number of personnel attached to the Office of the Minister for Finance on 1st January, 1973, was ten and on 1st January, 1975, the joint staff of the Office of the Minister for Finance and the Minister for the Public Service was 12.

The comparative numbers for the Office of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance were six and seven respectively.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

The personnel serving in the offices of the Minister and of the Parliamentary Secretary on the dates indicated were permanent officials of the Department. The numbers involved were as follows:

The number of persons employed on the personal staff of the Minister for Labour and Social Welfare on 1st January, 1973, was five. Information about the personal staff of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Labour and Social Welfare on 1st January, 1973, is being furnished by the Minister for Social Welfare.

The number of persons employed on the personal staff of the Minister for Labour on 1st January, 1975, was ten.

asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

, Cavan): The answer to the question is (a) seven, (b) nine. There was no Parliamentary Secretary attached to my Department on the dates mentioned.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of personnel on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary, on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

The number of personnel on the personal staff of the Minister for Foreign Affairs on 1st January, 1973, was six. With effect from 3rd January, 1973, the number was increased to seven and this was the number of staff employed on 1st January, 1975.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

There were eight officers on my personal staff on 1st January, 1973. The number remained unchanged on 1st January, 1975.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of personnel employed on his personal staff and, if applicable, on that of his Parliamentary Secretary on (a) 1st January, 1973, and (b) 1st January, 1975.

The number of personnel employed on the Minister's personal staff on both dates was nine.
