Vol. 277 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School.

16.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the fact that the required number of children are now attending Keimaneigh national school, County Cork, to merit sanction for a second teacher, he will make the appointment.

Mr. R. Burke

As stated in my reply to a question on this matter on 18th December last, the average enrolment of pupils in Keimaneigh national school does not warrant the appointment of a second teacher in the school in accordance with the rules for national schools.

Would the Minister confirm that a decision announced some time ago regarding the appointment of extra teachers was not final, and would he now allay the anxieties of teachers throughout the country?

I am sorry, Deputy Power——

Will he say that the appointment of an additional teacher can be made other than on 1st July?

This is a question appertaining to a specific school.

It appertains to every school in the country with regard to the employment of additional teachers.

The Deputy must put down a separate question.

On a point of order, I should like to draw the attention of the Chair to the fact that the instantaneous translation booth has been unmanned since Question No. 12. If any of the 15 to 20 Deputies present fall into the vernacular of the first language of the State, in which we all speak to each other around the House, I am the only non-Irish speaker in the House and I will find myself in a position where I cannot understand the proceedings.

Question No. 17.
