Vol. 277 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teacher Transfers.

5.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the academic year 1973-74 the number of teachers who (a) left primary and entered secondary education, (b) left secondary and entered primary education, and (c) left vocational and entered secondary education.

Mr. R. Burke

(a) The number of teachers who in the academic year transferred from primary to secondary education is 32. (b) So far as can readily be ascertained from the Department's records, no secondary teachers transferred to primary education in 1973-74. (c) The number who transferred from secondary schools conducted by the VECs to voluntary secondary schools is 47.

Is the Minister satisfied with the degree of mobility within the different tiers of the teaching profession? That is a serious question.

Mr. R. Burke

The answer is "no".
