Vol. 277 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Barracks Plans.

27.

asked the Minister for Defence if the plans to provide a new army barracks which were made before the 15th March, 1973 have been advanced; and if moneys are now being provided for this purpose.

This project has considerable financial and service implications and it is not expected that there will be any expenditure on it during this year.

Could the Minister state to which one he is referring?

I am referring to the possibility of building a barracks in substitution for Cathal Brugha Barracks whenever that barracks is disposed of.

What about Monaghan?

28.

asked the Minister for Defence if his Department are proceeding with plans to build new barracks at Monaghan and Dundalk.

29.

asked the Minister for Defence the amount spent during 1974 on the provision of new barracks at Monaghan and Dundalk.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 28 and 29 together.

A contract for the erection of a new billet block at Dundalk Military Barracks will be placed within the next few weeks. The preparation of plans for the improvement of the existing accommodation at the barracks is proceeding. The preparation of contract documents for the new post to be built at Monaghan is nearing completion. It is expected that a contract for this work will be placed before May, 1975.

There was no expenditure on these projects in 1974.
