Vol. 277 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Architechtural Heritage Year.

43.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the National Committee for the European Architectural Heritage Year, 1975 have produced a study of the legal, financial and administrative aspects of the conservation of this country's architectural heritage; and if he will make a general statement on this matter.

The National Committee for European Architectural Heritage Year, 1975, have set up a sub-committee to consider the legal, financial and administrative aspects of the conservation of the country's architectural heritage. I understand that the committee hope that this sub-committee will be in a position to produce a report during 1975.

Is it true that the Minister did not attend the launching of the booklet on the Architectural Heritage Year because of his attitude to amenity grants?

That is a separate question.

No, it is not true. I am surprised that Deputy Lemass, who I always thought to be a reasonable Deputy, should attempt to put that story across in this House.

That is the information I have.

Would the Deputy let me have the source of his information? I would be glad if he would.

Like journalists, we do not have to disclose our source of information.

When you make them up you do not have to stand over them.

Question No. 44.

I was told that the Minister objected to part of the booklet——

This is a separate matter.

The Minister was invited but did not go. Why not?

Because I had a prior engagement. It is untrue that I refused to attend for that reason. I would like Deputy Lemass to name his informant.

Naturally I will accept the Minister's word.
