Vol. 277 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Egg Producer Licences.

59.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the present position regarding the licensing of egg producers selling eggs to retail outlets; the number of licences that have been issued over the past year; the amount of the licence fee; and whether any prosecutions have been instituted against unlicensed farmers or farm housewives who have sold eggs to shopkeepers.

In accordance with the requirements of the EEC egg marketing regulations egg producers who so supply are considered for authorisation as packing centres under these regulations to enable them to sell their eggs direct to retail outlets. Over the past year 350 persons have been authorised as packing centres for which no fee is chargeable. No prosecutions have been instituted against farmers or farm housewives for contravention of the egg marketing regulations.
