Vol. 277 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick Alumina Plant.

61.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to reports (details supplied) to the effect that a company (name supplied) have postponed a decision to start construction of their alumina plant in County Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen a report of the nature specified by the Deputy. Planning permission for the project was confirmed in September last. Since then the company has been making revised arrangements for financing the project taking into account the continued rise in capital costs and has been proceeding with the design and engineering plans for the project. The company is accordingly actively developing its plan for the building of the alumina plant but it is not yet in a position to indicate a firm construction schedule.
