Vol. 277 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Vocational School.

79.

asked the Minister for Education if he will receive a deputation from the Vocational Education Committee of South Tipperary with a view to resolving the urgent accommodation problem at Killenaule vocational school.

80.

asked the Minister for Education if he will meet a deputation from South Tipperary Vocational Education Committee and the parents' association regarding the new vocational school for Killenaule, County Tipperary.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 79 and 80 together.

My Department are satisfied that the Killenaule school has sufficient accommodation to meet its short-term needs. In the longer-term it is proposed to provide new permanent accommodation. In view of other more urgent building priorities it has not been found possible to proceed with a permanent building development. In addition a decision regarding the accommodation to be provided is dependent on the outcome of a review in 1976 of the operation of the senior cycle which was sanctioned on a trial basis for three years.

In these circumstances and pending completion of the review in 1976 a meeting with South Tipperary Vocational Education Committee to discuss accommodation at Killenaule school would be of limited value. If, however, a vocational education committee deputation wishes to see me before completion of the review I would be prepared to receive them.
