Vol. 278 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonmel Crime Statistics.

1.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of crimes committed in Clonmel Garda station district, County Tipperary in 1974; the nature of the crimes; and the detection rate in the area.

I assume that what the Deputy is interested in is the area served by the station in Clonmel and not the district of which Clonmel is the headquarters town.

The total number of crimes which were reported to or became known to the Garda as having been committed in that area in 1974 was 154.

The breakdown of that figure into the four categories of crime is as follows:

Offences against the person Detection rate—100 per cent

7

Offences against property with violence

60

Offences against property without violence Detection rate—61 per cent

74

Other indictable offences Detection rate—100 per cent

13

2.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of assault cases reported at Clonmel Garda station, County Tipperary, in 1974.

The number was 16 but I am informed by the Garda that about half of them were of a very minor nature.
