asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the increase in traffic on the Old Bawn Road, Tallaght, County Dublin, he will indicate the steps he intends to take to enforce the speed limit regulations there.
With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together.
I have been informed by the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána that no prosecutions for breaches of the speed limit regulations on Old Bawn Road, Tallaght, County Dublin, were taken during the calendar year 1974.
The Garda say that they have no evidence of excessive speeding on Old Bawn Road, and they do not consider that the road needs to be singled out for special measures to enforce the speed limits.
Is the Minister aware of a comment made recently—I think it was also in the Garda Review—that the 50 mile-an-hour speed limit was not favoured by the Garda authorities——
That is a separate matter.
——and was one not easily enforced in the public interest? Has the Minister any comment to make on that?
I am aware of the comment and it is inaccurate.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the heavy increase in traffic on Bunting Road, Walkinstown, Dublin, which is causing concern to residents, he will indicate the steps he intends to take to enforce speed limit regulations there.

During the year 1974 four prosecutions were taken for breaches of the speed limit regulations on Bunting Road. In the same period 87 prosecutions were taken for other offences against the Road Traffic Acts detected on Bunting Road. The Garda say that this road receives continuing Garda attention.
