Vol. 278 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amenity Grants Scheme.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of the amenity grants scheme (a) the total allocation and (b) the allocation to each local authority for 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74, the transitional financial period 1974 and 1975.

The present amenity grants scheme did not apply in 1971-72. The total allocations made under the scheme in 1972-73, 1973-74 and the transitional financial period 1974 were:—

1972-73

£465,000

1973-74

£240,000

9 months ended 31st December

1974

£300,000.

The 1972-73 figure includes a supplementary allocation of £165,000 made in December, 1972, a condition attached to this allocation being that the overall allocation for 1973-74 be reduced by a corresponding amount.

The allocations made to each local authority for the periods referred to were given in my reply to a question by Deputy Molloy on 11th June, 1974. No new grant allocations have been made under the scheme for the current year. An amount of £75,000 has been provided in my Department's vote for 1975 to provide for the payment of balances of grants allocated and still outstanding at the end of 1974.
