Vol. 278 No. 4

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Slaney Salmon Stocks.

16.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of the concern expressed by the Wexford Fishery Board at the failure of salmon stocks in the River Slaney in recent years; and the steps he proposes to take to remedy the position.

I am aware of the concern expressed by the Wexford Fishery Board at the decline of salmon stocks in the River Slaney. My Department have co-operated in remedial measures in recent years by way of stocking of the river with unfed fry and salmon fingerlings and arrangements are being made for a comprehensive survey to be carried out this year in order to determine what further steps should be taken to rehabilitate the salmon stocks of this river.
