Vol. 278 No. 4

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Estates.

37.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission will compensate an employee (name supplied) of the Cope estate, Graney, Casteldermot, County Kildare who has lost his employment as a consequence of the division of the estate.

Cavan): While the Land Commission do not accept that the person referred to lost his employment by reason of their acquisition of the Cope property they decided, in the circumstances of the case, to make an ex-gratia payment to him. I understand that payment was made within the last few days.

I should like to ask the Minister if the payment was expedited by the fact that I put down the question?

(Cavan): The Deputy's question has been down for some time. Probably it had the effect that payment was made a few days earlier than would have been the case in the normal way.

38.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission sold 100 acres of the Kehoe estate, Crochet, Maganey, County Kildare privately to one man; and, if so, why.

(Cavan): The answer is no. The Land Commission recently acquired 87 acres of the property referred to; this area is still on hands and will be allotted by the Land Commission in the usual manner in due course.

Is it the case that the full farm has not been acquired by the Land Commission?

(Cavan): That is true. The estate consisted of 250 acres approximately and, in view of local congestion, proceedings were instituted for 173 acres, the buildings and an area of 78 acres being excluded from the proceedings. When the objection came forward for hearing it was indicated that two of the congests had inherited land and the third was no longer interested in obtaining the addition. Therefore, the commissioners were satisfied that an area of 87 acres would be sufficient to bring the deserving congests up to standard and they acquired that area.
