Vol. 278 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Entertainment Costs.

25.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the cost borne by his Department for entertainment by him since March, 1973; and the occasion of each separate charge.

The cost borne by my Department for entertainment by me since March, 1973 was £436.25. It is proposed, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have a statement circulated with the Official Report showing the occasions in respect of which the total charge arose. I do not consider it appropriate that the charge in respect of each separate occasion should be published.

Following is the statement:

Occasions in respect of which the charge of £436.25, borne by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs for entertainment by the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, arose.

1. Dinner given by the Minister on the occasion of the British/Irish Association Conference at Cambridge, England, in April, 1973.

2. Dinner given by the Minister at Stockholm on the occasion of a visit in October, 1973, to Sweden to confer with the Swedish Telecommunications Administration.

3. Entertainment by the Minister on the occasion of a visit to Iceland in July, 1974, as representative of the Government at the 1100th Anniversary of the Norse Settlement in Iceland.
