Vol. 278 No. 6

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath School.

20.

asked the Minister for Education when he intends to provide an additional classroom for Kilbride national school, near Trim, County Meath, in view of the fact that one class is at present being conducted in an old house across the road from the school which is an unsatisfactory arrangement.

Mr. R. Burke

A grant has been sanctioned by the Department towards the cost of a permanent extension comprising an additional classroom and a general purposes room at Kilbride national school, County Meath.

The arrangements for the erection of the extension are in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works. I am not in a position to say when building work will commence. The Commissioners have been advised to treat the scheme as urgent.

I am glad of the information given. When was the work placed in the hands of the Board of Works for them to give priority to it?

Mr. R. Burke

The application was received in November 1973, when an application was made for the appointment of a teacher. It was agreed with the manager in January, 1974 that a permanent extension consisting of one classroom and a general purposes room be provided. They were asked in February to furnish a report on the feasibility of this and sketch plans for the proposed extension were sent to the manager in July. Following agreement with the manager as to the local contribution, a grant was sanctioned on 2nd December.
