Vol. 278 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - TB Eradication Scheme.

11.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when his Department will authorise veterinary surgeons to carry out TB testing this year.

My Department expect to be in a position within the next month or two to issue authorisations to veterinary surgeons in relation to testing under the bovine tuberculosis eradication scheme in 1975.

Is the Minister aware that this order is usually made in mid-February? Why does he now say it will issue within the next month or two which could mean May or June?

My notes indicate that they are not usually made in February, but in March. The same procedure is being followed this year. There is an additional complication because there is a change to bovine tuberculin rather than human which was used up to the present and some demonstrations are necessary.

Is it because of EEC regulations that the change is being made to the European type?
