Vol. 279 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forest Park Development.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will consider giving the Minister for Lands joint responsibility for conservation so that, in the development of forest parks, the protection of wildlife and the profit motive in tree planting will be considered.

The Minister already has such responsibility.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there is a very serious conflict of interest in relation to commercial tree planting and conservation? When profit motives arise in regard to these coniferous trees the wildlife in these forest areas can be made extinct.

I am not so aware; and I think the Deputy ought to address a question to the Minister for Lands if he is himself so aware.
