Vol. 279 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North-East Policing Policy.

12.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs at whose request his recent meetings with the British Secretary of State for Northern Ireland were arranged; and whether particulars of any new policing policy in the troubled parts of the North-East were given to him and, if so, whether this was the first instance in which such particulars were given.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland meet at regular intervals and by mutual agreement to discuss matters of common interest. No particulars of any new policing policy were given by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland at their meeting on 5th March or at any other recent meeting.

Is the Minister satisfied that all necessary steps are being taken to make some progress on sections of people in the North in order to bring about an end to the killings and maimings? Is the Minister satisfied that the British Government are tackling things in the right manner in order to achieve that?

That is not the question the Deputy asked. He asked whether particulars of policing policy had been given to the Minister. The answer is "no"; no particulars were given on the 5th of March or at any other recent meeting.
