Vol. 280 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Offaly River.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Camcor River, Kinnitty, County Offaly, will be deepened and cleaned this year as it has caused flooding on lands in the area.

Mr. Kenny

The Camcor river is situated in the Little Brosna catchment and could be dealt with by the Commissioners of Public Works only as part of a comprehensive scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for that catchment as a whole.

The Little Brosna is No. 11 on the priority list of major catchments to be considered for treatment under the Act but as its drainage is bound up with the Shannon flood problem I cannot say when it will be undertaken.

Is there any arterial drainage scheme being caried out at all at the moment?

Mr. Kenny

Yes, two very major schemes.

What are they?

Mr. Kenny

The Boyne and the Maigue.

Are there any new schemes being done?

Mr. Kenny

We will have a new scheme in Mayo soon I trust; it will be the third phase of the Corrib. It is called the Corrib-Mask-Robe.

The Corrib-Shrule and the Corrib-Mask are really part of the same drainage scheme.

Mr. Kenny

That is right.

I am asking the Parliamentary Secretary whether in the period of office of the present Government any completely new drainage scheme has been undertaken.

Mr. Kenny

The Maigue has been started.
