Vol. 280 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Castle Restoration.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance the steps that have been taken towards the restoration of King John's Castle in Limerick.

Mr. Kenny

General preservation works have been carried out at King John's Castle, Limerick, such as the repair of walls, parapets, roofs, rain-water-pipes, windows, doors, floors, interior limewashing, et cetera, and one of the castle rooms has been adapted as a reception area for visitors. The restoration of the monument is not proposed.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary not aware that Limerick Corporation sent a comprehensive report to the Department of Local Government with regard to the full restoration of this ancient castle as a cultural centre? Because of the inaction of the previous Minister for Local Government that scheme is still lying idle and nothing is being done?
