Vol. 280 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Artificial Insemination.

35.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the action he proposes to take in the light of the figures for artificial insemination for 1974 recently published.

Trends disclosed by artificial insemination figures are kept under constant review with the AI bodies so as to maintain the highest possible usage of the service.

Is the Minister not worried at the drop in insemination figures?

Of course, I am always worried when I see these figures dropping.

Does the Minister think it is because of the additional charges or a decline in the breeding stock?

The additional charges have not been anything significant or would not be the cause at all of a reduction. It is simply because of the bad price of cattle during the past year or 18 months.
