Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Statistics.

70.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the report presented by the North-Eastern Regional Development Organisation indicating the decrease in employment in manufacturing industries in the region; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am aware of the report prepared by the North-Eastern Regional Development Organisation.

A number of projects have been approved for the region by the Industrial Development Authority. Over the next six months, projects with an employment potential of approximately 1,400 are scheduled to start there, and further projects for the region which have been approved are expected to commence at a later stage.

71.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the number of workers unemployed and on short-term employment in County Kildare; and if he will indicate the plans he has to restore full employment for these workers.

I am aware of the unemployment and short-time employment position in County Kildare.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that a number of new projects have been approved for different towns in the county. Recruitment for two of these projects one of which has a potential employment of 1,000 and the other 600 has already begun.

Question No. 72 postponed.
