Vol. 280 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Taxation Statistics.

38.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Finance the total amount per head of population collected in taxation at the latest date for which figures are available.

Total taxation, which is customarily defined as in the national accounts, comprises taxes on income, including social insurance contributions, taxes on expenditure, including rates and taxes on capital.

The provisional estimate of total tax per head of the population for the calender year 1974 is £309.

(Dublin Central): Has the Minister any idea of how this figure compares with previous ones?

I do not have the figure available immediately.

(Dublin Central): I can assure the Minister that it is much lower than the figure for 12 or 18 months ago.
