Vol. 280 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - European Transport Facilities.

43.

asked the Minister for Finance if he considers the transport facilities available to members of the Government, members of the Oireachtas and civil service personnel who travel to Brussels and other European destinations to be efficient and comfortable; and if he has made any proposals to the Government for the provision of less tiring and less time-consuming transport services.

I would regard the transport facilities available for travel to Brussels as reasonably satisfactory as they stand at present. Facilities for travel to some other European destinations, especially to places where Aer Lingus do not fly directly, can be less satisfactory but occasional inconveniences are inevitable in travelling. I have not made any proposal to the Government for the provision of alternative special transport services for those travelling officially, as I am not satisfied that the enormous cost entailed would be warranted.
