Vol. 280 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bulk Milk Tanks.

29.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that farmers who ordered and paid for bulk milk tanks in 1974 but who did not start to use them until March, 1974, are being refused the appropriate grant; and if he will have the matter rectified.

Bulk milk tanks have been accepted for aid purposes under the Farm Modernisation Scheme since its inception but the basis of the grant was altered in February last. My Department is prepared to examine on their merits cases of particular difficulty.

Could the Minister give an undertaking that—practically all these cases seem to be bona fide— ordering in advance on the part of farmers for the carriage of milk, in this milk season, be allowed a grant?

Without examining the thing more fully, I should not like to give such an undertaking. But I shall certainly have the matter seriously investigated.
