Vol. 280 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Safety Standards.

34.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, in view of the fact that many farm accidents result from people becoming entangled in the PTO shafts of agricultural machinery, he will make safety standards in this country comparable to those in other European countries.

The introduction of safety standards as suggested would require legislation, which I do not consider warranted at present. Farm safety generally can be more effectively promoted through educational and advisory methods.
