Vol. 280 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fertiliser Exports.

2.

asked the Taoiseach the quantity of nitrogenous fertilisers exported during the 12 months ended 31st March, 1975; and the quantity imported in the same period.

During the 12 months ended March, 1975, exports of nitrogenous fertilisers amounted to 7,235 metric tons while imports amounted to 168,822 metric tons.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary state if some of the fertilisers imported were imported under special licence as happened last year when bags were imported marked "Made in Ireland"?

I do not know.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary state if some of the imported fertilisers were under the same special licence granted by the Minister for Industry and Commerce in 1973 and early 1974? The bags were supplied by Nítrigin Éireann Teoranta and marked "Made in Ireland" even though the product was manufactured abroad?

As the lawyers would say, I am a stranger to the matter contained in the Deputy's supplementary question. I do not know anything about this but I will try to find out about it for the Deputy.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that there is a serious stockpile of fertilisers in Arklow which they are unable to sell?

That is not relevant. It is a matter for another Minister.

It is a matter of extreme urgency for Arklow town.
