Vol. 280 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cashel Post Office.

33.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the lack of toilet facilities for members of the staff of Cashel post office, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of overcrowding in the switch room at Cashel post office, County Tipperary; and when he intends to rectify the position.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the new automatic exchange at Cashel, County Tipperary will be installed and become operational.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 33, 34 and 35 together.

I am aware that there is some congestion in the telephone switch room at Cashel post office. It would not be practicable at present to relieve the situation but the position will, of course, be remedied when the new automatic exchange, which is being provided, opens. It is expected that automatic working will be introduced early in 1977.

Representations have been made recently in favour of providing increased toilet facilities and these are now being looked into.

I felt the Minister would be more at home on the first of those questions. Would he consider putting in immediately some air conditioning in the switch board room?

I will certainly look into that.

Even some special glare facilities would help?

I will look into that.

The only thing which worries me about the Minister saying he will look into this is that he promised me he would look into something five months ago and I had to write to him recently about it. I still have not heard from him. When can I expect to hear from the Minister?

As soon as possible.

When can I expect to hear? Surely this will not take months? Will I hear within three weeks?
