Vol. 280 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Factories.

3.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the up-to-date position concerning the provision of advance factories by the IDA in the following centres in County Mayo where the unemployment rate is high: Swinford, Charlestown, Kiltimagh, Kilkelly, Ballyhaunis, Ballindine and Balla, and at Ballinlough in County Roscommon.

Swinford, Ballyhaunis, Charlestown and Kiltimagh are listed as locations for industry in the Industrial Development Authority's regional industrial plans for the west. A 7,400 square foot advance factory has recently been completed in Swinford and it is being promoted for industry by the authority. The authority intend to start construction shortly on an 11,400 square feet advance factory in Ballyhaunis, and to purchase land for industry at Charlestown and at Kiltimagh but there are no plans for the construction of advance factories in these towns; suitable sites have not yet been found in these two locations.

The authority have no immediate plans for the construction of advance factories at Kilkelly, Ballindine and Balla, County Mayo, or at Ballinlough, County Roscommon, but are of course prepared to give grant assistance to suitable projects interested in locating in these towns.
