Vol. 280 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Schools.

31.

asked the Minister for Education why the shelter at Clonmacnoise national school, County Offaly was demolished.

Mr. R. Burke

An extension and improvement scheme was carried out at Clonmacnoise national school, County Offaly in 1973-74. Under that scheme two existing playshelters were converted to a teachers' room and kitchenette.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange for the provision of an extension to Shannonbridge national school, County Offaly.

Mr. R. Burke

My Department had agreed to the provision of an extension to Shannonbridge national school, County Offaly, but the Commissioners of Public Works reported that the existing site was too small for extending and updating the school and that the site would have to be extended.

I understand that the manager has so far been unsuccessful in his efforts to obtain an extension to the site.

When was the Minister last in communication with the manager in regard to this site? Is he aware that an extension is badly needed because of the large increase in the number of pupils attending this school?

Mr. R. Burke

In regard to the latter part of the Deputy's supplementary I am so aware. My information is that the Commissioners of Public Works were in touch with the manager in the earlier part of this year.
