Vol. 281 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Environmental Interests.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider establishing conventions and regional institutions for collaboration, co-operation and the exchange of information in all matters relating to the environment to ensure that the environmental interests of the EEC are considered as a whole.

Matters arising under the EEC environment programme are considered in the normal way by the Department mainly concerned in consultation with other Departments having an interest. Wider or different consultation arrangements can be made whenever that is appropriate. The present arrangements are working satisfactorily, and I have no plans for establishing new institutions.
