Vol. 281 No. 7

Ceiseanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castletownbere Industry.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of any agreement between the IDA and the Office of Public Works whereby no factory will be erected in Dinish Island, Castletownbere, County Cork, until the infrastructure is completed by the Office of Public Works; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not aware of any agreement such as that referred to by the Deputy.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that a Spanish fishing company has been, for a considerable period, awaiting the provision by his Department of cold storage and fish curing facilities at Dinish Island, Castletownbere, County Cork, which will allow it to set up a factory in the area for the processing of fish; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An Irish subsidiary of a Spanish fishing company has proposed an integrated project combining fish catching, a fish factory and a fish freezing plant and cold store at Castletownbere. A site on Dinish Island has been tentatively allocated for the fish factory, freezing plant and cold store. The project is at present being examined by my Department, An Bord Iascaigh Mhara and the Industrial Development Authority.
