Vol. 282 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aran Islands' Vocational School.

18.

asked the Minister for Education the number of additional teachers to be appointed to the vocational school, Kilronan, Aran Islands, County Galway to enable leaving certificate classes to be held there next year.

The Vocational Education Committee were informed that the Department of Education would be prepared to accord sanction to a proposal for suitable courses of instruction at senior cycle level in Gairmscoil Éinne, Cill Ronáin. A proposal in this regard has recently been received from the committee and is at present being examined. It is not yet possible to state what the appropriate staffing requirements may be in 1975-76.

Was this one of the pronouncements made by Aire na Gaeltachta during the Taoiseach's recent tour of the north and west coasts?

There has been correspondence between the vocational education committees and the Department for some considerable time. I am not in a position to say what the Minister for the Gaeltacht announced when he was on the Aran Islands.

Having regard to his interest in and commitment to and involvement in education, would the Parliamentary Secretary not know what the Minister said in relation to secondary education on the Aran Islands? Does he not appreciate that these questions had been down at least two weeks before the Taoiseach's tour on the occasion of which the Minister for the Gaeltacht made the announcement?

I have not got the information.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say when the question was submitted originally?

I have not got that information either.

Would he agree it was not less than three weeks ago?

I would not like to say.

Having regard to the fact that my questions were put down four weeks ago and that this question was only about five questions away from them, would he accept this question was down three weeks ago?

It may or it may not have been.
