Vol. 282 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - College of Art and Design.

30.

asked the Minister for Education the capital service costing £57,000 that is listed for Bord an Choláiste Náisiúnta Ealaíne is Dearbha; and if the work is in hand.

Mr. R. Burke

A capital sum of £57,000 was allocated in respect of the National College of Art and Design for the current financial year to cover the cost of certain alterations to the existing college building and to provide for initial expenses in relation to the planning of a new college.

I asked the Minister if the work was in hand. I did not notice in his reply any reference to that question.

Mr. R. Burke

I am not in a position to indicate whether all the work proposed is in hand. I understand that some of it is.

What kind of an answer is that? Is it in hand or is it not? Would I be right in thinking there was to be an addition to the building?

Mr. R. Burke

As the Deputy will notice if he goes outside the door, there has been the knocking down of a wall for the building of an extension to link up with portion of the building thus exposed.

So it is not in hand.

Mr. R. Burke

The difficulty arises in regard to that as the Deputy probably knows.

Could I ask the Minister has the work which the money, this £57,000, covers been started or not?

Mr. R. Burke

I told the Deputy a wall has been knocked down.
