Vol. 282 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Police Patrol.

44.

asked the Minister for Justice the amount of time per week spent in the Tallaght area by the patrol car which serves that area from the Rathfarnham Garda station, County Dublin.

(Cavan): The patrol car based at Rathfarnham station is no longer used in the Tallaght Garda sub-district on a regular basis but only if and when directed there to meet some special need. The new arrangement, operative since the first week of May, is that the patrol car attached to Tallaght station is assigned for use on a 24-hour basis daily. A Garda van is also based at Tallaght station.

Do I take it that there is a permanent car based in Tallaght now?

(Cavan): That appears to be the position. There is a car available on a 24-hour basis daily.

I had a question about this recently when I asked the Minister if he would provide a car and at that time he said it was not necessary.

(Cavan): I am sure the Deputy is very happy to find that there is one there now.

I wonder if Deputy McMahon has been informed about this. I had a question down recently about this and the reply I received was that the reply had been sent to Deputy McMahon. I should like to ask the Minister if that is the practice.

(Cavan): I think that I handled the question for the Minister for Justice on that day. I understand that sometime before that question Deputy McMahon and Deputy Walsh were on a deputation to the Minister and talked the whole thing over with him. Subsequent to that a parliamentary question was put down.

It was not on that matter that the deputation was concerned.

(Cavan): I stand corrected.
