Vol. 282 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Policing.

3.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the recent spate of robberies in the Minane Bridge, Nohoval and Belgooley areas of County Cork, he is taking steps to strengthen the Garda force in the area.

The Commissioner informs me that he considers that the present arrangements for policing the areas mentioned are adequate having regard to other demands on Garda resources. In accordance with normal practice, two extra gardaí will be assigned to Kinsale during the summer months and the situation will be kept under review.

Would the Minister investigate the position regarding the spate of larcenies and robberies in the early months of this year and would he care to comment on this situation?

The Garda are investigating the matter to which the Deputy refers and in the absence of detection there is no further comment to make beyond saying that the Garda are actively pursuing investigations in this regard.
