Vol. 282 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consultants' Payment.

23.

asked the Minister for Health if he has received a report from the review body set up by him to consider methods of payment to consultants in the proposed free hospitalisation scheme.

I have not yet received a report from the review body.

Will the Minister ever?

I hope so.

Has the Minister asked the review body have they finalised their deliberations and will they be able to give him a report in the foreseeable future having regard to the fact that it is a year since they were first set up?

I expect that I will have a report from this body towards the end of the year.

Even at this late stage, would the Minister be prepared, if I may coin a phrase, to come clean with the House and the general public and admit that this nonsensical extension of free hospitalisation for everybody is just not on and do away with the facade that this has something to do with the payment of consultants?

I will not.

The Minister cannot come clean.
