Vol. 282 No. 5

Written Answers. - Arklow Dumping.

295.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that sludge from the Avoca River was dumped on the south beach at Arklow, Co. Wicklow; if permission was granted by him; and the steps that are being taken to restore the amenity which existed there.

I am aware that sludge recovered from the River Avoca during dredging operations at Arklow harbour was deposited on the South Beach at Arklow. My permission was not requested for this action. I understand that the sludge has now been removed and the beach restored to its former condition. No further sludge will be deposited in the area in question.
