Vol. 282 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Institutional Accommodation.

20.

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the growing number of cases of wives with children who are forced to leave their husbands and who do not qualify for housing accommodation in Dublin because of the residence qualifications, he will consider acquiring suitable premises to cater for their needs.

The provision of institutional accommodation in Dublin for women and children of the type referred to by the Deputy, who are unable to provide shelter and maintenance for themselves, is primarily a matter for the Eastern Health Board who are empowered to provide accommodation either directly or through the medium of voluntary agencies.

I understand that this type of accommodation is provided in the Dublin area by voluntary agencies subsidised by the board.

The matter is being kept under review by the board.
