Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Textile Industry.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the number of people engaged in the textile industry on 31st December in each of the years 1972, 1973 and 1974 and on 31st May, 1975.

The total number of persons engaged in establishments classified to the textile industries for the purposes of the annual census of industrial production in mid-December in each of the years 1972, 1973 and 1974 was 22,900, 22,700 and 21,300 respectively and in mid-March, 1975, the latest period for which the information is available at present, it was 20,100. The figures for 1973, 1974 and 1975 are estimates and are subject to revision in the light of the results of the annual censuses for those years. All the figures given cover administrative, clerical and technical staff as well as industrial workers but they exclude outside piece-workers. Employees who may have been on short-time working in the periods referred to are also included in the figures.
