Vol. 282 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a preliminary report on the proposed Abbeyfeale water supply scheme, County Limerick; and, if so, when he will make a decision on the application.

The preliminary report for this scheme is under examination in my Department. A decision thereon will issue to the local authority as soon as possible.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in the sanctioning of the Herbertstown, County Limerick water scheme which is with his Department since November, 1974.

Limerick County Council's proposal to construct a water tower at Herbertstown is under consideration in my Department. However, there was no objection to work on the group scheme going ahead and I have already allocated grants accordingly.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are proposals for a piped water supply for the Modeligo area, County Waterford; and, if so, when work is likely to commence.

This proposal is included in Waterford County Council's programme of small water supply and sewerage schemes for 1975.

Since small schemes do not now require my specific approval, it is a matter for the county council to determine the order in which these schemes will be carried out.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will expedite the approval of an application for a loan to finance a group water scheme at Barnabrow, Cloyne, County Cork.

The loan in this case which arises out of the county council requirement to have the pipe sizes increased was applied for on the 28th April, 1975, and is at present being processed.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding Cloonmore/Roscahill group water supply scheme, County Galway.

The group have been advised to seek quotations for the necessary materials, carrying out of the work, and so on, so that firm costings may be determined and the appropriate grants allocated.

Might I ask the Minister the date on which they were advised of this?

The Department approved it on 21st of January, 1975.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction the contract submitted by Laois County Council for the first stage of the south eastern regional water supply scheme.

I sanctioned the contract documents for this scheme in July, 1974, subject to a number of amendments. I have told the local authority that the revised contract documents which were received in my Department on 14th May, 1975, are in order.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that, in view of the cut in allocation from £80,000 to £20,000, the Northern Committee of Cork County Council will not be able to carry out its programme of urgent minor water connections and extensions; and the action he proposes to take in the matter.

It was never envisaged that small schemes programmes would be completed in a single year. Last year was the first year in which separate allocations were made for small schemes and no programme was submitted in respect of the Cork northern area. The programme which was submitted for consideration this year in respect of the area comprised 14 schemes costing £82,200 and the allocation made was £20,500. This should enable four or five of the more urgent schemes to be undertaken.

Can the Minister say whether there is any hope of a supplementary allowance before the year expires?

No, there would not be.
