Vol. 283 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Pier.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when it is proposed to commence work on Ballyglass Pier, County Mayo.

Tenders for the scheme of harbour works proposed for Ballyglass are being examined at present but I cannot say when the work will commence.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give me any indication as to when the work is likely to commence?

Deputy Gallagher is aware of the inflationary trends. The original estimate is inadequate and must be revised. We will be asking Mayo County Council for an increased contribution. This is urgent work. The Deputy can be assured that it will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

Is it likely to start this year?

I cannot commit myself to that. If it does not start this year it should start early next year. That is a statement I make without having got the final reports so the Deputy need not hold it against me when asking questions here next February.

Tá sé ar an méar fhada.
