Vol. 283 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Industrial Safety Organisation.

6.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will explain the reduction in the provision for the National Industrial Safety Organisation in the current estimate.

The reduction in the amount of the grant provided for the National Industrial Safety Organisation from my Department's vote for 1975 was due to the fact that the organisation had accumulated a substantial balance from previous years' grants.

Do I detect a lack of concern for both the magnificent work carried out by NISO and the necessity for it to be seen that it has the full backing, financial and otherwise, of the Department of Labour?

Safety in industry has the full backing of the Department of Labour but the Deputy will agree that it is financial prudence, if money has not been expended, that you do not continue handing it out to an organisation. That is the case here.
